Dr. Janet Salmons is a free-range scholar, writer, and methodologist. She has written 12 books. Her most recent books are: Doing Qualitative Research Online (2022). Reframing and Rethinking Collaboration in Higher Education and Beyond: A Practical Guide for Doctoral Students and Early Career Researchers with Narelle Lemon (2021), Your Super Quick Guide to Learning Online (2021), Publishing from your Doctoral Research: Create and Use a Publication Strategy with Helen Kara (2020), Learning to Collaborate, Collaborating to Learn (2019), Find the Theory in Your Research (2019), Getting Data Online (2019).

Currently Dr. Salmons consults on qualitative methodology, blogs at www.salmons.bog, edits the Substack newsletter, When the Field is Online, and is working on a design guide for online researchers. In 2024 Dr. Salmons was selected as a fellow with the Center for Advanced Internet Studies in Bochum, Germany. Dr. Salmons served as the Research Community Manager for Sage Methodspace from 2017 to 2024, creating original content and online events about research methodology, instruction in research methods, and academic writing. Dr. Salmons served as a dissertation supervisor and qualitative methodologist for the Walden University Ph.D. program in Educational Technology from 2016-2017. She served on the doctoral faculty of the Capella University School of Business from 1999-2017, and was honored with the Harold Abel Distinguished Faculty Award for 2011-2012 and the Steven Shank Recognition for Teaching in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. She received the Mike Keedy Award (2018) from the Textbook and Academic Authors Association, given in recognition of enduring service to authors, and is an honorary TAA fellow. Dr. Salmons received a B.S. in Adult and Community Education from Cornell University; an M.A. in Social Policy Studies from the SUNY Empire State College, and a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies and Educational Leadership at the Union Institute & University. She lives and works in Boulder, Colorado.
